Shout Out to Outdoor Research
While checking Facebook at the end of January 2019 I came across an ad from Outdoor Research (Outdoor Clothing/Gear Company) and they were highlighting a contest giveaway where they wanted to give one of there new Refuge Hybrid Hooded Jackets to a few lucky winners. Seemed interesting so I thought I would check it out. All that they asked was that I write an explanation of why I should be chosen and how I would use this jacket on my outdoor adventures. I thought this would be a good idea to talk a bit about what the EPIC program was about and tell Outdoor Research how I incorporate the outdoors in my program and how I would be thrilled to represent and try out their brand on my outdoor adventures. I didn't think much of it, then a week later I received an email from Outdoor Research and they said that I was chosen as one of the winners for this contest. I was beyond excited that they picked me and I couldn't wait to receive a jacket from them. One of the conditions for the winners, was that they asked that we take some pictures of us putting their jacket to the test and then send in a story of how we used it. They showcased the winners on their Verticulture Blog and it is cool to see myself and EPIC showcased on their website. Click on the link below to check out the article.
EPIC Project Building Guide
Over the past couple of years I have been working on a ebook that looks at all of the projects I have completed in EPIC and give detailed explanations on how I build them. This is still a work in progress and I only get to it when I have lots of spare time. Here is a PDF of what I have so far. The file is too large to upload it on this website so here a link to my Google Drive and you can download it from there.

My UBC Masters of Education Capstone/Thesis
I have recently completed my Masters of Education Degree in Curriculum Studies focusing on Outdoor Education. As part of the requirements of this degree I had to complete a capstone project/thesis. For my capstone project I focused my research on my EPIC program where the objective of my research project is to see if exposing EPIC students to more outdoor learning experiences changed their mindset about outdoor learning and the appreciation for and connection to nature. If you would like to read my capstone you can click on the google docs link below.

CBC Radio Interview with Chris Walker talking about the EPIC Program
In my first year of teaching EPIC I didn't realize that word had already been spreading and there were many people that wanted to learn what the program was about and what I was doing with my students. I had the pleasure of doing a phone interview with CBC Radio 1 hosted by Chris Walker. Here is a video with the audio from that interview.
